My Science Story
Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be outside. I would be outside so much that I would forget to eat sometimes! I grew up with three older brothers so we would always be outside playing street hockey, manhunt, capture the flag, etc. There was never a dull moment in our family. We have always went camping every summer, so that is always something to look forward to every year. Science seemed to always be one of my stronger subjects, which I believe is based on how much fun it can be. I remember in 4th grade, we disected owl pellets and then had to attempt to construct a rodent out of the bones. It may sound disgusting but it was really fun! I love doing experiements, never knowing what the actual results of my actions may be, and I love how there is always something new to be learned. I look forward to this semester. I am a little bit nervous about teaching a class, but it should be really fun!

Hi, Kelly! Great job creating your blog.
ReplyDeleteWe may get a chance to dissect owl pellets in our class this semester, so you may be revisit the excitement of 4th grade.
Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI think if you (as a teacher) believe science is fun, and share that energy from your science story with your students, you will definitely motivate them to want to learn. I have to admit that disecting owl pellets is a little out of the ordinary but I like how you stated that in science there is always something new to be learned (which is what makes it so interesting.)
Wow owl pellets?? That's wild! It may sound weird as you said, but look at the impression it left on you that you still remember it with enthusiasm after all this time, awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think that with science (or teaching anything really) that enthusiasm is what it's all about, so you're off to a great start!
Thanks for sharing-

ooh! I hope we dont have to dissect owl pellets this semester. But if we do, I bet it will actually be kinda fun, but def kinda gross too!
ReplyDeleteI think almost everyone is nervous about teaching a class...I definitely have gotten more nervous as I've read all our textbooks...I realize it's such a huge responsibility!!! But, like all things, it will get easier and better with practice and experience.
I hope you still get many chances to be outside! Please don't ever lose the spirit to have so much fun you forget to eat! (gosh, that's got to be A LOT of fun!)
I disected animal pellets as well! That was interesting but fun. Experiments in science class were always so much fun. I think the children will love if we did experiments with them to keep them interested in the subject. I love camping as well. It is so much fun to set the tent up and cook over a fire.
